HOLE SETS RECORDS

For a third week, Hole's "Celebrity Skin" sits at #1, scoring over 200 points for a third consecutive week. In the chart's 15th week, all the other #1 hits have spent only up to 2 weeks at #1, except for Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris", which remains the record holder for the longest run at #1 (4 weeks) and the biggest point total, as the #2 title, Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" is rapidly losing points, down to #20 from #9. "Skin" is the only threat, as it has scored over 900 points in just 4 chart weeks. The Goo Goo Dolls should not worry though, as "Skin" has competition from two new entries this week, Lenny Kravitz' "Fly Away" and the highest new entry, none other than the latest single from the Dolls, "Slide", which opens at #9.

CHART REVISIONS

The chart has gone through some changes through the past few weeks. It is now a 50 position chart, allowing recurrents to enter the chart as they please. Therefore, older titles such as Pearl Jam's "Wishlist" and Stabbing Westward's "Save Yourself", big recurrent hits last week, are now on the big chart. Most importantly, the chart has changed its name to Bryan's Rock 50 Singles, which is partly to reflect the majority of rock singles charting. However, rock is really a broad term and the chart's purpose is to reflect the good music out there. Pop and R&B singles can chart, as long as they are good. For now, the chart covers pop to alternative to metal, Madonna to Metallica.

ROCK AIRPLAY

The #1 title, "Celebrity Skin", has also moved to #1 on the official Modern Rock Chart. It is Hole's first #1 single. Their highest peaking single before "Skin" was "Doll Parts", which peaked at #4. Meanwhile, "Skin" is also the first chart entry for them on the Mainstream Rock Chart, moving up 10-9. A great single deserves generous airplay. On the Mainstream Rock Chart, Creed's "What's This Life For" holds on at #1 for a 4th week, holding back Kiss' "Psycho Circus". On both the Billboard Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, 9 of the Top 10 titles on each chart, are represented on Bryan's Rock 50 Singles. Third Eye Blind's "Jumper" (#10 on Modern Rock) has moved out of the chart, while Aerosmith's "What Kind Of Love Are You On" (#4 on Mainstream Rock) should be making a chart entry in the upcoming weeks. The Top 10 of both charts will also be posted on the Commentary (see below) each week.

GOLD

Two singles go gold this week. Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta", a longstanding hit, which has finally moved to Top 5 this week, goes gold. Eve 6's "Inside Out", which has been moving down the charts in a very quick fashion has the consolation of going gold.
