TOP TEN IS STABLE

The chart has been relatively quiet the past few weeks, especially the Top 10 portion. This week, no new singles hit Top 10, as the only dropout is Monster Magnet's "Space Lord" down 10-11, while Rob Zombie's "Dragula" rebounds 12-10 after peaking at #5 a few weeks back, due mainly to significant MTV airplay of the clip. The Most Improved award goes to Korn's "Got The Life", which moves up 5-2 on a 40 point gain, the greatest point gain on the chart this week. It is definitely a contender for the top spot. Speaking of which, the top spot has been hogged by Creed's "What's This Life For", a great single currently one of the biggest hits on hard rock radio. It is now the second longest running #1 on the chart, tying Hole's "Celebrity Skin". Seeing that only 4 points seperates it from the #2 title, "Got The Life", it may not go on to break the record. Meanwhile, for the 11th consecutive week, Everclear's "Father Of Mine" is in the Top 10. Stay tuned till next week.

LOOKING TO THE TOP TEN

Below "Space Lord", we have 5 new entries in the Top 20, including hits from rock veterans, U2 back with their latest, "Sweetest Thing", moving 30-12, while last week's Smashing Debut, The Offspring's "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" is up from 24 to 14. We have two re-entries in the Top 20, Eve 6's "Inside Out", on its 12th week on the chart, moving up again due to its longevity on alternative radio, while making continued gains on hard rock radio and is now crossing over to Top 40 radio. The other re-entry is Flys' "Got You", back at #15. Fuel's "Bittersweet", after falling to #44 last week has an amazing rebound, now its rank is #19.

CHEESY DETAIL

Seven Mary Three's "Over Your Shoulder" is living up to what their band's name is. It is number Seven for Three weeks. It has been on the chart for 7 weeks and its peak remains at number Seven.

ROCK SPOTLIGHT

Hole's "Celebrity Skin" loses its #1 spot after only two weeks despite a bullet, with Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide" gaining more points in the end and hitting #1 on Modern Rock. This is two #1 singles for the two they've released this year. "Slide" also moves 8-7 on Mainstream Rock in a very competitive week. "Slide" has surpassed the peaks of its predecessor, "Iris", which peaked at #8 on Mainstream Rock. Kiss' "Psycho Circus" hits #1 on Mainstream Rock.

GOLD

Creed's "What's This Life For" goes gold after only its 6th chart week. Madonna's "The Power Of Goodbye" goes gold in its 15th, peaking no higher than #11. Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" is the first single to go platinum.
