CHART UPDATE

The chart now uses a different point system to coincide with Billboard's new chart. Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart now boosts country and R&B titles. Which means a lot of rock titles can't chart. The past few weeks, many tracks are not getting any popular points as many of the songs are not pop crossover hits. That is why popular points are now decided by the two charts below, Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock. The former is worth twice the latter. However, it still represents the hottest rock tracks on alternative and hard rock radio. With this, many titles gain points and bullets this week. Kiss' "Psycho Circus" continues its lengthy reign at #1 while Creed's "What's This Life For" spends its 9th week in the Top 2 and 5th at #2. Offspring's "Pretty Fly" hits #3 and Everlast's "What It's Like" moves to #3 and #4. Both are major hits on active rock and alternative radio. The high debut this week, Metallica's "Turn The Page", becomes the second highest chart debut in chart history, coming in at #5. The highest remains Creed's "What's This Life For" which entered at #3 and has since, not left the Top 3. The new popular points system has caused a major drop in points for Jewel's "Hands", who compared to last week's #1 rank in pop points, is now down to zero points. It drops from #9 to #26.

HALL OF FAME

For a second week, Everclear's "Father Of Mine" holds on to the top spot of the hall of fame. This will surely change as Hole's "Celebrity Skin", still in the Top 10, is looking to be the #1 song while Creed's longstanding smash hit "What's This Life For" will surely surpass Everclear.

ROCK SPOTLIGHT

Metallica's "Turn The Page" becomes their third Mainstream Rock #1 smash. Surprisingly, their album Re-Load, which spawned 4 Top 10 hits, did not produce a #1 hit. The highest peaking single, "The Unforgiven II", hit #2 early this year. Now, it's all good. It has kept Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away" at #2, while it continuously gains points. The awesome "Kickin' My Heart Around", from The Black Crowes remains at #3. On alternative, Cake's "Never There" ascends to #1. The only other major mover on the chart is Everlast's "What It's Like", hitting #4. It has also moved up to #21 from #27 on mainstream. Not bad for a hip hop artist to crossover to the major rock charts.
