SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
1. Perry Farrel "Hot Lava"
Ready to burn up the chart in upcoming weeks if airplay picks up.
2. Sugar Ray "Every Morning"
First single from Sugar Ray's 3rd album.
3. Zebrahead "Get Back"
4. Semisonic "Secret Smile"
Follow-up to two huge top 10 chart hits.
5. Rammstein "Sehnsucht"
6. Anouk "Nobody's Wife"

SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
1. Faithless "God Is A DJ"
This must be REALLY shitty to be above "Lullaby".
2. Shawn Mullins "Lullaby"
It's still very shitty.
3. Whitney & Mariah "When You Believe"
Is there even a hook in this song?
4. Will Smith "Miami"
5. Kid Rock "I Am The Bullgod"

CHART UPDATE

A very competitive week in the Top 2. Metallica's "Turn The Page" ends its short one week reign at the top to make way for The Black Crowes' "Kickin' My Heart Around", one of the most infectiously happy songs this year. Certainly deserving of the top spot. However, "Turn The Page" takes this week's Most Improved award, the second biggest point gain after "Kickin'". Because "Kickin'" holds the Top Spot honors, it can not take the Most Improved award. Look for "Kickin'" to make more and more significant gains in upcoming weeks. It is another great week for Candlebox as their "10,000 Horses" single takes major gains and lands at #6 this week. Airplay for this worthy track is declining but that's no worry because on Bryan's Rock 50 Singles, we award music for how good it is, not its airplay numbers. The track is doing so well that Candlebox's previous single "It's Alright" returns to the Top 20 at #17, after peaking at #4 a few months back. Also looking for some major follow-up success is Kiss with the second single from their Psycho Circus album, "You Wanted The Best", another no-bullshit rock track with catchy riffs and a lot of energy. It opens at #26 this week. Eve 6's "Inside Out", #25 after 19 weeks, is one of the biggest chart hits of 1998. This is also amazing, considering that it peaked no higher than #4. Their second single, the heavier "Leech", is a re-entry at #42 and is set to do very well on the chart.

HALL OF FAME

As predicted, Hole's "Celebrity Skin" is now the #1 song of 1998. It will most likely hold that honor next week when the mid-year report is compiled. It will count down the hottest rock songs of 1998. So check back next week.

ROCK SPOTLIGHT

It is another stagnant week in terms of airplay. We're still hearing Metallica's "Turn The Page" being played the most on hard rock radio and Cake's "Never There" on alternative. The only major breaker in airplay is Sugar Ray's "Every Morning", which perfectly fits with what alternative is into right now. Everlast's "What It's Like" moves up to #12 on Mainstream Rock and could be in the Top 10 next week, considering older titles such as Hole's "Celebrity Skin" and Creed's "What's This Life For" loses enough points.

GOLD & PLATINUM

GOLD -
The Offspring - "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)"

There are now 35 gold/platinum singles, all awarded in 1998.
