| CHART UPDATE |
The Top 2 remain the same this week. But that's not the real news. Creed's "What's This Life For" rebounds to #3, spending its 13th week in the Top 3. It has not left the Top 5 in its entire chart run. Meanwhile, their follow-up single, "One", is set for major success as radio jumps all over the worthy track. The single is this week's Power Pick - Airplay, moving 40-20 in its second week. Another longtime Top 10 resident, Hole's "Celebrity Skin", rebounds to #7. It has spent its entire 15 weeks in the Top 10 and it doesn't look like it's leaving soon. Courtney and the gang could have two singles in the Top 10 next week, with "Malibu", moving up to #12 on its first major chart week. If this is to happen, Hole will be the first band to have two simultaneous top 10 hits since Everclear had "I Will Buy You A New Life" and "Father Of Mine" both in the Top 10 on the pre-chart this summer.

Billboard has compiled its own Top 40 Rock tracks of the year. The #1 mainstream rock track this year is Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's "Blue On Black", which got major airplay all year long. Creed's "My Own Prison" is #2, while "What's This Life For" is #5. Sandwiched between the two Creed tracks are two Days Of The New songs: "Touch, Peel & Stand" at #4 and "The Down Town" at #3. Creed is the #1 band this year, Days Of The New are #2, each scoring 3 major smashes, all going Top 3. Metallica takes the #3 spot with 5 Top 10 hits this year, the biggest being "The Unforgiven II". On alternative, Marcy Playground's "Sex And Candy" is #1 while Eve 6's "Inside Out", one of the longest running chart hits of all time and the only single to hit #1 three times, is #2. Rounding off the Top 5 are Semisonic's "Closing Time", Fuel's "Shimmer" and Green Day's "Time Of Your Life".
