1. Marvelous 3 "Freak Of The Week"
SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
2. Train "Free"
A great new single from a band that just knows how to rock and roll.
3. Korn "Freak On A Leash"
4. Indigenous "Now That You're Gone"
5. Addict "Teenage Angel"
1. Shawn Mullins "Lullaby"
SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
13 weeks at #1.
2. Britney Spears "Baby One More Time"
The #1 best selling single and album?! What has happened to the world? I read her interview transcript and she seems damn stupid.
3. Beck "Tropicalia"
Although his suckiness will not ever be close to Shawn Mullins, Beck is still one of my most despised "artists" of the 90's.
4. Touch & Go "Would You..."
5. Beastie Boys "Body Movin"
Cute at first, EXTREMELY ANNOYING now that it's everywhere. Intergalactic was so much better.
NUMBER ONE
8th week and counting, The Black Crowes are number one with their excellent new single "Kickin' My Heart Around", the leadoff single from their latest album By Your Side, currently #56 on the Billboard 200. The single has fought off serious competition like Metallica's "Turn The Page", which spent 4 weeks at #2, Hole's "Malibu" which spent 2 weeks at #2 and Candlebox's "10,000 Horses" which spends its 2nd week at #2, despite the fact that for 3 weeks, it's been the #1 personal points track. The Black Crowes could spend yet another week at the top and so far, it's the longest running #1 ever on the chart by far. Future competition includes Collective Soul's "Heavy", which moves 15-7 on its second week in the chart. Orgy's "Blue Monday" is also up to #15 this week from #34 and may just hit the #1 spot or even Jonny Lang's "Still Rainin'", up to #5 this week from #6.
NEW ENTRIES
The highest new entry goes to Bare Jr.'s "You Blew Me Off", which debuts at #39 while Placebo's "Pure Morning" *finally* makes a chart entry after making its first appearance on the Shitlist many months back. It is #40 this week. Finally, another former Shitlist enters the chart at #48. That's Limp Bizkit's "Faith". Bare Junior is a new band who just released their new CD, by the way, and you can catch them on tour with the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, who had a minor hit with "Boogie King" last year.
THE LONGEVITY CHECK
"Inside Out" just won't leave the chart. It's up again in its 26th week on the chart, officially half a year on the chart. Meanwhile, the longest running top 10 hits have both moved out of the Top 10. After spending 19 weeks each inside the Top 10, Hole's "Celebrity Skin" and Creed's "What's This Life For" end their long reign inside the Top 10.
ROCK SPOTLIGHT
Creed's "One" makes major chart gains as it becomes the band's 3rd top 10 hit on alternative radio and their second highest peaking single in a very short time. The single is #9, shy of "My Own Prison"'s #7 peak. We'll keep you updated on what happens with the single.
GOLD & PLATINUM
GOLD -
Hole - "Malibu"
Hole finally goes gold. It's their second gold single. "Celebrity Skin" is the #1 biggest chart hit on Doc Rawk's 50 and it's platinum.
