1. Dovetail Joint "Level On The Inside"
SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
This is simply a great song and it'll make a huge debut next week.
2. Fatboy Slim "Praise You"
Way better than "The Rockafeller Skank" although still repetitive.
3. Oleander "Why I'm Here"
Another cool hard rock song which has a future on the chart.
1. Britney Spears "Baby One More Time""
SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
2 weeks at #1. Britney Spears still needs a brain transplant.
2. Shawn Mullins "Lullaby"
13 weeks at #1.
3. Barenaked Ladies "It's All Been Done"
I don't REALLY hate this song but it's become very annoying and I don't want to hear it anymore but I'm usually forced to listen to it.
4. New Radicals "You Get What You Give"
Same case as #3.
5. Mariah Carey "I Still Believe"
NUMBER ONE
Collective Soul score #1 with "Heavy" in only its 4th week on the chart. It takes a huge leap up the contributing charts, from #6 to #1 on Personal Points and #4 to #2 on Popular Points, the highest rankings for a #1 single on both charts. With this major gain, The Black Crowes end their 9 week reign atop Doc Rawk's 50 Singles and rank #2 this week. No problem though since this amazing feat will be difficult to duplicate. Back to "Heavy", I predicted it'd be the successor to "Kickin'" and indeed it was. How many times have I predicted a #1 and the single stalled at #2? Too many times. Check out 3 #2 singles in the Top 10 alone. Anyhow, "Heavy" looks like it will not have its weight bring it down, but comfortably positioned at #1. What a great song.
NEW ENTRIES
After only one new entry last week, this week sees two very strong debuts despite a strong week for all singles in general. Korn leads the pack of 3 new entries with the followup to its #2 smash "Got The Life". The new song is called "Freak On A Leash" and it opens at #26 on its first major week at radio, set to follow the footsteps of the alternative-hard rock-metal crossover success of "Got The Life". The second highest new entry is John Mellencamp's "I'm Not Running Anymore", also a followup to a previously charted single. That single was "Your Life Is Now", which had a dismal chart life last year. Now, it's back as a Re-entry, ready to log some more time on the chart. Both are great deserving songs. The last new entry this week is Goo Goo Dolls' "Dizzy". This is technically the 3rd single from their album Dizzy Up The Girl and it will be another huge smash hit. It hasn't even been serviced to radio yet and its strong debut comes only from personal points.
THE LONGEVITY CHECK
"Inside Out" takes a major tumble down the chart but spends a 28th week in the chart. Look for it to be out in the next few weeks.
GOLD & PLATINUM
PLATINUM -
Korn - "Got The Life"
GOLD -
Jonny Lang - "Still Rainin'"
Better Than Ezra - "At The Stars"
"Still Rainin'" is the second blues single to go gold, following Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Somehow, Somewhere, Someway".
ROCK SPOTLIGHT
Two new #1's displace Everlast's "What It's Like" at #2. On Mainstream Rock, Collective Soul scores their zillionth #1 hit with "Heavy" and on Alternative, Sugar Ray finally ascends to #1 with "Every Morning". A huge success story is that of Dovetail Joint's excellent "Level On The Inside". It is one of the most added tracks on alternative radio. Look for it to enter the Top 10 in upcoming weeks.
