1. Virgos Merlot "Gain"
SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
A strong single, a great song, but airplay isn't too hot for this one.
2. Jonny Lang "Wander This World"
"Still Rainin'" was and still is huge.
3. Loudmouth "Fly"
1. Eminem "My Name Is"
SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
2 weeks at #1. Your name is on my hitlist.
2. Mariah Carey "I Still Believe"
2 weeks at #1. Why don't you quit the music business, Mariah? Prostitution will fulfill all your dreams, Mariah.
3. Shawn Mullins "Shimmer"
The song and video match the crap level of "Lullaby". He has truly outdone himself.
4. Lauryn Hill "Ex Factor"
Grammy awards for sounding just like any other crap? Lauryn, you're crap.
5. Beastie Boys "Body Movin'"
See #5.
NUMBER ONE
Collective Soul's "Heavy" is STILL at #1 becoming the second longest running #1 title on the chart. If it logs another 5 weeks, it'll beat The Black Crowes' record of 9 weeks with "Kickin' My Heart Around". It has a comfortable lead over the #2 single, the followup to "Kickin'", "Only A Fool", which ascends to a new peak. This breaks new records. The Crowes are the first band to chart two simultaneous singles inside the Top 3 and for the 14th consecutive week, they have a single inside the Top 2. So "Fool" may just end "Heavy"'s reign at #1. But don't count out Candlebox's "Happy Pills" which has been making steady gains for the past few weeks. Now, it moves from #10 to #5. And finally, this week's Smashing Debut is Train's "Free", an old single which has strong personal points backing it up. It will be up there.
NEW ENTRIES
Besides "Free", other debuts include Econoline Crush's second chart single "All That You Are", the followup to the #8 smash "Surefire (Never Enough)", still at #29. "All" starts off at #43 this week, with strong airplay securing future chart success. Finally, the #1 bubbling under single "Hole In The Sky" from Pantera debuts at #46.
THE LONGEVITY CHECK
Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide" falls out of the Top 10, ending its 20 week stay inside the Top 10, still the record holder though. Meanwhile, Hole's "Celebrity Skin" is on its 27th chart week.

Collective Soul - "Heavy"
After only 8 weeks, "Heavy" is gold.
ROCK SPOTLIGHT
Collective Soul's "Heavy" is still the indisputable champion at radio. It's so huge that it accomplishes the difficult task of entering the Hot 100 Singles. The same goes for Creed's "One". Because the ratings of rock stations are low, the #1 title may not even enter the Hot 100. For example, Metallica's "Turn The Page" did not make a chart entry, despite a 11 week reign on top of the Mainstream Rock charts. "Heavy" and "One" both have major support from alternative radio though.
