SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
1. Godsmack "Keep Away"
With "Whatever" still inside the Top 10 on its 21th week on the chart, this followup is set to do just as well.
2. The Cranberries "Promises"
The new one from the Cranberries isn't as strong as older material but we'll see.
3. Pound "Upside Down"
This hot new rock single will tear up the charts once it makes an entry.

SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
1. Alanis Morissette "Unsent"
3 weeks at #1. It's a mystery why stations would play this crap and VH1, quit playing it. It's a stupid video, failing in its delusional mission to save the song.
2. The Offspring "Why Don't You Get A Job"
Now that its novelty value has worn off and radio stations still refuse to stop playing it, it has really gotten on my nerves. It's not even a well structured song and the hook is weak. The video also sucks.
3. Eminem "My Name Is"
4 weeks at #1. Enimem is currently #1 on my shitlist of people to give permanent laryngitis.
4. Savage Garden "Animal Song"
It's less annoying that I hear it less but when I do, I'd like to shoot the radio.
5. B Witched "C'est La Vie"
This song is sooooooo damn obnoxious!

NUMBER ONE

After a three week run at #1, The Black Crowes drop to #2. Although it only spends a third of the time its predecessor, "Kickin' My Heart Around", spent at #1, it hit #1 nonetheless. Now, however, Sammy Hagar takes the top spot in a relatively slow week, with nearly every title on the chart losing points. "Mas Tequila" looks like it won't spend very long on top as well, with major competition coming from behind, namely the #3 title, which is the only bulleted Top 10 title. It has also been gaining every week it's been on the chart, this week moving up from #9. Buckcherry's "Lit Up" is a track garnering major radio support. It's being played on a diversity of formats from more conservative rock and roll to metal stations. This crossover support will soon be extended to modern rock / alternative radio. The track is extremely infectious and has a great beat. These types of singles have done very well this year from "Mas Tequila" to "Kickin' My Heart Around", both breaking records. "Lit Up" should do the same.

NEW ENTRIES

There is only one debut this week, Hole's "Awful". It is the followup to "Malibu", the third single from Celebrity Skin, opening at a very low #49. The single is only getting support from alternative radio and chances of crossing over to active rock are slim but we'll see how far personal points can take it. Currently, Collective Soul's "Run", a single experiencing no support whatsoever from active and very little from alternative, is still doing well in the lower ends of the Top 25. Doc Rawk's 50 Singles is also planning to extend its "popular points" to encompass more formats of radio, and give songs like "Run" and "Awful" a better chance at Top 20 glory.

THE LONGEVITY CHECK

Goo Goo Dolls definitely break the record this week, as "Slide" slides down to #32, but spends a 29th week on the chart. Will it make 30 weeks? Very likely.

GOLD & PLATINUM

PLATINUM -

GOLD -
Bare Jr. - "You Blew Me Off"
Candlebox - "Happy Pills"

Candlebox was the first band to score 3 top 10 hits and now it's the first to score 3 gold singles.

ROCK SPOTLIGHT

Pound's "Upside Down" is turning radio upside down and is set to become a major active rock / rock hit.
