1. Simon Says "Slider"
SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
This new single is making strong gains on active rock radio.
2. Indigenous "Things We Do"
Watch for a strong debut next week.
3. Vertical Horizon "We Are"
Radio impact is on early June but this is a great song and I predict a huge hit for this.
4. Metallica "Die, Die, My Darling"
Barely missed the chart this week, this shall make a strong debut next week.
5. The Offspring "The Kids Aren't Alright"
Unlike its irritating predecessor, this is a good song. Obvious choice since the other songs on Americana are crap.
1. The Offspring "Why Don't You Get A Job"
SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
4 weeks at #1. Thankfully, their new single "The Kids Aren't Alright" is a lot better.
2. Alanis Morissette "Unsent"
4 weeks at #1.
3. Busta Rhymes / Janet Jackson "What's It Gonna Be"
4. TLC "No Scrubs"
5. Sugar Ray "Every Morning"
NUMBER ONE
With an amazing sixth consecutive week at #1, Sammy Hagar's "Mas Tequila" ties Collective Soul's record for second longest running #1 single. It shows no signs of relinquishing the top spot soon, boasting a bullet. However, after a long run at #2 on popular points, "Tequila" drops to #2, losing over 500 plays on rock radio. Since, the #2 single, Buckcherry is #2 on both personal and popular points, it may just take over the Top spot with this, in upcoming weeks. Providing "Tequila"'s airplay does not die out too quickly by next week, it will hold on for a seventh week. But remember, there's also the #3 single, Oleander's "Why I'm Here", which may just sneak up from behind and take #1. "Why" is also #1 on Active Rock radio and is gaining on Rock radio, with major support from both formats, providing airplay to Popular points.
NEW ENTRIES
Four songs make their first appearances this week. Lenny Kravitz's latest, "American Woman", may actually get stations to stop playing "Fly Away", which, a year after its release, is STILL on Billboard and STILL Top 20 on the Rock chart. I'd think they'd be sick of it now, but no... It's supposedly very radio friendly. "Fly" peaked out at #2 last fall and spent only 20 weeks on Doc Rawk's 50. "American" is surprisingly not from the same album, but from the Austin Powers soundtrack. Other debuts come from Wilco, the country-rock single "Can't Stand It", which debuts at #40. Papa Vegas and Swimmer also make debuts.
THE LONGEVITY CHECK
The Black Crowes' "Kickin' My Heart Around" holds steady at #9 on its 27th chart week, 25 of those spent inside the Top 10.
GOLD & PLATINUM
PLATINUM -
GOLD -
Oleander - "Why I'm Here"
Tom Petty - "Free Girl Now"
Korn - "Freak On A Leash"
Oleander goes gold in only 8 weeks.
ROCK SPOTLIGHT
Collective Soul has shattered all #1 records, with "Heavy" at #1 for an incredible 15th week. Airplay is at a steady decline, enough to keep it on top possibly for a few more weeks.
