SURE SHOTS TIP LIST
Bubbling under the 50. Most likely to make a chart impact.
1. Drain STH "Enter My Mind"
They're back, the hottest chick metal group. The ones that brought you "Crack The Liar's Smile".
2. Megadeth "Crush Em"
Another high profile band back with a new hit, the new album's titled Risk.
3. Tonic "You Wanted More"
This week's most added track on rock radio, haven't heard it yet though.
4. Goo Goo Dolls "Black Balloon"
Huge in pop, not sure if it's rock enough though but we'll see.

SHOOT THE RADIO SHITLIST
Overplayed, overrated, overhyped. Least likely to make chart impact.
1. Britney Spears "Sometimes"
1 week at #1. Wow, something more annoying than "Baby One More Time". Nice implants, pre-pubescent whore.
2. TLC "No Scrubs"
2 weeks at #1. I wonder why they get cred for the crud they constantly put out.
3. Ricky Martin "Livin' La Vida Loca"
Ricky Martin needs to learn English.
4. Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way"
They're breaking Soundscan records. What the fuck is up with that? Gawd, talent doesn't sell anymore, does it?
5. Whitney Houston "It's Not Right, But It's Okay"
Yes, our favorite speaker for abused wife's rights and our anthemic theme song.

NUMBER ONE

It's a second week on top of the chart for Buckcherry but even though it's bulleted, Buckcherry does not have enough steam to hang on to the Top spot for long. For one thing, it's been in the Top 3 for quite a while now. And with Def Leppard closing in the margin between the Top 2 spots, we should see "Promises" taking number one very soon, with its high rankings both on personal and popular points. Also don't rule out the new Red Hot Chili Peppers song, which is already up to #6 on its third week, this week's Most Improved.

NEW ENTRIES

A strong debut comes from Pound this week, "Upside Down" finally debuts and at #15, a great start. Shouldn't go much higher though, with popular points steadily declining. A song that should have a decent run is Collective Soul's latest, "No More, No Less", already a huge rock hit. It should experience the same longevity "Heavy" and previous Collective Soul singles have experienced. A number one berth is not impossible. The other debut comes from Def Leppard's "Paper Sun", which is getting some decent airplay as well.

THE LONGEVITY CHECK

The Black Crowes' "Kickin' My Heart Around" is #30 on its 30th week. One more week and it breaks the record for longest chart run.

GOLD & PLATINUM

PLATINUM -

GOLD -
Second Coming - "Vintage Eyes"

Second Coming score their first gold hit, the Top 10 smash "Vintage Eyes".

ROCK SPOTLIGHT

New Dokken is becoming a smash, but not as potentially big as the new Sammy Hagar, "Shag", which is catchy and the tie-in with the Austin Powers movie, even though it's not featured in it or the soundtrack, should give it some more exposure. Good marketing on MCA's part. There's also the new Tonic, set to become just as big as previous hits such as "If You Could Only See", "Open Up Your Eyes" and "Casual Affair", all top 10 smashes on Mainstream Rock. There's also new Megadeth and new Drain STH in upcoming weeks.
